about

J.Chambers has cemented himself as a stable in the UK-Hip Hop underground scene. With lyrics of Redemption, Black Liberation, Freedom and Equality, Escape The Kingdom is a sonic exploration of what it means to be Black & British within contemporary English culture. Growing up within a strong Jamaican family but within a British Society, J navigates and explores the challenges pertaining to understanding of culture and celebration of identity within the wider narrative of the project. The production provided by Manchester Producer JSD of Virus Syndicate features the fusion of Roots Reggae reminiscent of an early Steel Pulse with the modern sounds of UK Rap which provides the perfect soundscape for J’s pensive and thought provoking lyrics to really penetrate the psyche and evoke a deeper thought of what is our identity and what it really means to be Black and British in 2020.

In the creation process J has released 3 singles which have enlisted the help of some of the best upcoming reggae talent from around the globe. With The title track of the LP calling upon Bebble Rock Recordings Artiste Koro Fyah for a triumphant and yet rebellious chorus. To the more politically charged Kill The Noise which was released in response to the Black Lives Matters Protests (one of which J led within Manchester) enlisting the help of Jah Riki who is another of the prominent figures of the European Reggae Scene.

The 3 singles from the project have received coverage from a multitude of outlets from the prominent Riddim Magazine which is the largest European Reggae Magazine, to the PRS writing about the project in their Black History Month M magazine. This coverage led to J receiving support from BBC 1Xtra with Multiple plays on the Heartless Crew show, which led to him being commissioned by Children’s BBC to write a poetry piece to open their Black History Month celebrations live on Blue Peter. The video was distributed by BBC’s social media pages and has been used as a teaching resource nationwide which progressed to J being invited to speak in schools and colleges around the country.

With each single being released on historically significant days, with Escape the Kingdom dropping on Brexit, Kill The Noise being released on Juneteenth and My Antenna being released on National Afro Day. The Project will be released on February 25th 2021.
